Sometimes meals alone aren’t enough and snacks are needed to get through the day. This post is all about the must-have snacks for your home.

Have you ever felt hungry, walked to the kitchen, looked through the fridge and every drawer, just to not find anything you want to eat, and walked away? This probably happens way more than you think.

Not to worry! Believe it or not, there are some delicious home snacks you can put together just by randomly picking things from what you already have.

This post is all about the snacks for your home that will help break your habit of looking through the cabinets with no results.

First off, it is important to note that you should be keeping a water bottle or a glass of water with you at all times. This is because there is a chance that when you feel hungry, you actually just need water.

Next time you feel hungry, try drinking some water and wait to see if the effects go away, or if they don’t, you can go get a snack.

Must-Have Snacks At Home:

fruit-

Although this one may seem like an obvious choice to add to your household list of essentials, fruits can be included in so much more than you think.

There are fruits like these that you can eat by themselves:

Apples

Bananas

Pears

Strawberries

Blueberries

Grapes

Oranges

Just to name a few. On top of that, you can ’pear’ these fruits with things to make them more filling or just include a different taste. (Did you see what I did there?)

Here are some ways to eat the fruits in a different way:

fruit basket

smoothies

add nut butter (i.e. apples and peanut butter)

eat them with yogurt and make a parfait

cut up strawberries and add sugar to them in a bowl

frozen grapes

set up a charcuterie board and add cheese and crackers

With a little creativity and testing, you may be able to find your own perfect match! There are hundreds of varieties to try and change.

vegetables-

Again, another obvious one. But just like fruit, they can be used in so many different things.

Veggies like:

Celery

Carrots

Kale

Broccoli

Brussel sprouts

Spinach

Artichoke

Can be mixed with other foods to make a hearty and healthy snack that fulfills your need to eat something.

Here are some creative ideas you can use:

Ants on a log (celery, peanut butter, and raisins)

Sauteed veggies

Artichoke and mayonnaise (may sound weird but it’s pretty good)

Carrots and ranch

Kale chips

Cooked Brussels sprouts and cranberries

Fruits and veggies basket

If you have a juicer at home, you can also press a bunch of fruits and vegetables to make green juice!

Fruit chips-

This is also a pretty broad category, but that also means that there is a variety to choose from that will fulfill your personal preferences.

For example, if you are looking for a healthy snack that is not too filling but may satisfy your hunger, you can get fruit chips.

Companies like Bare do an amazing job and I have always liked their chips as snacks on my long drives. They have great apple chips and coconut chips, which are my go-to when I find them at the store.

If you would rather snack on something else, there are hundreds of different options.

Looking for something with a smaller portion? Crackers like goldfish come in small sizes and are easier for kids to eat.

If you don’t want chips/crackers with artificial cheese, rice crackers are a great alternative that pairs well with fresh cheese. This has become my favorite late-night snack to share with my family while we all get work done.

Or maybe something less cheesy that you can pair with a dip? Bigger chips like Tosititos (which I recently just talked about in my last blog post: [link here]) are perfect for that.

Those were all of the broad options for home snacks to personalize your kitchen, and now here are the specific snacks that you need to have for your quick breaks.

Applesauce-

THE BEST healthy and packaged snack to take on-the-go if you just need a burst of natural sugars. This is also great if you don’t eat breakfast in the mornings (like me) and just need a little bit to get you to lunchtime.

Granola bars-

Another great easy snack that is packaged so it can be taken on the go without the chance of crumbling onto other things. Although the package can’t be resealed, if you eat it within the same day it will taste perfectly fine.

If you aren’t in a rush to get out of the house and don’t want to use up your granola bars, then this is another snack that is highly recommended:

Yogurt-

Yogurt can be eaten by itself or with other toppings like granola. If there is any fruit lying around, slicing it up and adding it to your yogurt is a great way to get extra fiber and nutrients.

Note: yogurt can be messy so this is not suggested to be brought somewhere where you can’t sit down and eat it properly.

Smoothies-

Another great way to use up your fruit is to make a smoothie out of it. You can add milk or yogurt for a base which also adds extra protein.

Want to make it a dessert? Add vanilla ice cream to your fruits and turn it into a milkshake! To make it into a thicker consistency where you can eat it just like ice cream, freeze the fruit the night before.

Banana bread-

Banana bread is a great snack for any occasion. It makes an easy breakfast, can be brought to parties or banquets, and there are so many recipes for it that it can be tailored to suit anyone’s needs.

A loaf of bread can last over the course of a week or more, so if you are dedicated to spending an hour or two every weekend preparing it for the week, you will have a consistent and fresh snack option.

If you don’t like banana bread, fear not! There are plenty of other options. Pumpkin bread is a great choice if you still want to bake a loaf each weekend.

Not everyone has the time to make their own snacks for the week, so naan bread is an alternative. You can toast it in the toaster, heat it in the microwave or the oven, and it goes nicely with hummus.

It also doesn’t have to be exclusively eaten as a snack at home but can be used as a side dish to many dinner-time meals.

Nuts-

This includes trail mix and other packages that include mixed varieties. Nuts are a great snack if you are hungry but don’t want to fill up your stomach.

They don’t freeze when it gets cold or melt when it is hot so they don’t need special treatment when it comes to storage. Nuts are typically not messy and can be kept not only at home but also in the car or the office.

Dried fruit-

Similar to fruit chips, dried fruit is an easy alternative that does not leak juices everywhere. Dried fruit can be stored in the pantry, and still contains several of its natural sugars.

I have found the BEST dried fruit at Trader Joe’s, so looking there first if you can is highly suggested. Some of the sweetest dried fruits are:

Mangoes

Strawberries

Bananas

Cranberries

Although, the list is definitely not limited to these four. There are many different dried fruits that may test better or worse depending also on their texture.

Last but not least, snacks like these are the easiest to find and often the most convenient:

Leftovers-

Sometimes this seems like the most obvious option but usually, it can fly over your head. You may have a great selection of snacks already in the house, but if the food in the fridge is getting older, most of the time it’s better to eat that.

Snacks with preservatives that can be kept in the pantry are going to last way longer than any of the food you prepare for your meals, so if you have the time to sit down and eat, you can take small portions of your leftovers without getting too full.

All of these snacks are great foods to eat if you want something but don’t want to be super unhealthy. Of course, there are ways you can alter them to your liking and maybe this post will give you your own home snack ideas.

This post was all about the absolute must-have snacks for your home if you’re feeling peckish and need ideas on what sounds good to eat.
